Serving our Community and our neighbors is such an important part of the Scouting experience that it is part of the Scout Oath.  We reenforce this duty by requiring Scouts complete service hours in order to achieve every rank except Scout.  Eagle Scout candidates even have to plan, develop and lead others in a service project. Some merit badges even require Scouts to complete service hours.
