Eagle Wall of Honor

Eagle Scout is the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America.Β  It is a challenging journey that requires those that earn it to complete:

  • Six previous ranks,
  • Earn at least 21 Merit Badges, including 14 from a set of required Merit Badges,
  • Actively serve as a leader within our Troop,
  • Plan, develop, and lead a service project that benefits the community, and
  • Consistently demonstrate Scout Spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Since it was first awarded in 1912, more than 2 million young people have achieved the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank and Troop 457 has seen many of our members become an Eagle Scout.

Meet troop 457s Soar

A group of Eagles is called a “Soar”.  Troop 457’s Soar of Eagle Scouts dates back to the 1940s shortly after the troop was first chartered with the Boy Scouts of America.  After achieving Scouting’s highest rank, the Eagle Scouts are recognized with a special Court of Honor ceremony where they receive their Eagle Scout medal.  Troop tradition also has the names and promotion dates of our Soar permanently added to our Troop Eagle Banner and our website.

An Eagle Scout's Impact

One hundred years after Arthur Eldred of New York earned this nation’s first Eagle Scout Award, new, independent research demonstrates the significant, positive impact Eagle Scouts have on society every day.Β  The study conducted by Baylor University, Merit Beyond the Badges, found that Eagle Scouts are more likely than men who have never been in Scouting to:

  • Have higher levels of planning and preparation skills, be goal-oriented, and network with others
  • Be in a leadership position at their place of employment or local community
  • Report having closer relationships with family and friends
  • Volunteer for religious and nonreligious organizations
  • Donate money to charitable groups
  • Work with others to improve their neighborhoods

This independent research was funded by the Templeton Foundation and conducted by Baylor University. The Boy Scouts of America has linked to it with the permission of Baylor University Institute for Studies of Religion, Program on Prosocial Behavior.
