Crossing Over

The Crossover Ceremony is an annual tradition in most Cub Scout Packs where Scouts in the Fifth Grade are celebrated as they move from a Cub Scout Pack to a Scouts BSA Troop.Β There is not a standard Crossover Ceremony script, but most ceremonies feature the following

  • The Scouts standing with their Den and Den Leader(s) to be recognized (showing what they have been a part of in the Pack)
  • Removing the Scout’s blue Cub Scout shoulder loops (symbolizing that the Scout is no longer a Cub Scout)
  • The Scout crossing over a bridge where they are met by representatives of the Troop (symbolizing leaving the Cub Scout Pack to join a Scouts BSA Troop)
  • Being presented with their green Scout BSA shoulder loops and a Troop neckerchief and slide (bonding the Scout to their new Scouting family in the Troop of their choosing)

Troop 457 will participate in any new member’s Crossover Ceremony (regardless of which Pack they are affiliated with) as long as the ceremony does not conflict with a previously scheduled Troop activity.

What the Pack Provides

When participating in a Crossover Ceremony, Troop 457 asks the Pack to provide the following in advance of the ceremony:

  • The date, time, and location for the ceremony
  • The names of the Scouts crossing over to Troop 457
  • A copy of the Crossover Ceremony script
What the Troop Provides

Troop 457 will provide the following when we are invited to participate in a Crossover Ceremony:

  • Representatives to participate in the ceremony
  • For each of the Scouts Crossing over:
    • Scouts BSA shoulder loops
    • Troop 457 Neckerchief
    • Scouts BSA Slide
    • A Scouts BSA Handbook (presented at the first Troop meeting the Scout attends)
What the Scout's Family Provide

Your Scout and your family’s support of them through their Scouting Adventures!Β  We encourage you to celebrate this milestone in your Scout’s journey to Eagle with a celebratory gift like:

  • A Scouts BSA Handbook Cover (You do NOT need to buy your Scout a Handbook as one will be provided to them when they attend their first Troop meeting after the crossover)
  • A Merit Badge Sash
  • Camping gear or a gift card to Public Lands or REI
