About Lesson

The Scouts BSA Handbook has a special Hiking and Camping Logs (starting on page 461 and 463 respectively) for tracking a Scout’s hiking miles and camping nights.  After a Scout has completed a hike or attending a campout, they should fill in all the fields in these logs EXCEPT the Scoutmaster or Adult Signature field. The Scout should then request the Scoutmaster or other Adult Leader who attended the hike/campout sign the Scoutmaster or Adult Signature field. Only signed off camping nights or hiking miles can be used to complete rank requirements.

REMEMBER: Camping used for rank requirements must be with the Troop or your Patrol. Camping nights for the Camping Merit Badge must be completed at designated Scouting activities or events and can be completed before beginning the merit badge.

Hiking / Camping Log in TroopTrack

An Advancement Coordinator or another adult leader will make sure the hiking miles and camping nights are accurately tracked in TroopTrack for reporting purposes.
