About Lesson

The fourth and final step of advancement in Scouts BSA is RECOGNITION.  We recognize Scouts for their achievements by presenting them with a patch or, in some cases, a medal that they can wear on their Class A uniform.  Troop 457 presents these patches and recognize Scout’s achievements at a Court of Honor.

Courts of Honor are  gatherings for Scouts, families, and  guests where the troop and troop members are recognized for what’s been accomplished and achieved. They are presented in a manner appropriate for a special occasion and can feature a variety of impressive ceremonies.

When are Courts of Honor

Assuming there are enough Scouts who have earned Merit Badges or achieved a Rank, the Troop typically holds Courts of Honor once a quarter during a regularly scheduled Troop meeting (usually on a “fifth Tuesday”).

The exception to this schedule are Eagle Scout Courts of Honor. These events are focused entirely on the Scout who is receiving their Eagle Scout rank and can be held at any day or time.

All Scouts and their family are encouraged to attend Courts of Honor even if the Scout is not being recognized.

Preparing for a Court of Honor

Scouts must have completed all rank requirements (including Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review) and turned in their completed Merit Badge Blue Cards one to two weeks before the day of the Court of Honor. This ensures the Troop is able to obtain the necessary awards in advance of the Court of Honor.

The specific due dates will be communicated regularly before the due date.
