Podcast Transcript

Hello Scouts, parents, and supporters and welcome back to ‘The Troop 457 Scoutmaster Minute.’ I’m Mr. Maloney, and this is your weekly summary of Troop news, achievements, and upcoming events for November 29, 2023. Let’s get right to it!

Thank Yous and Congratulations

First off, thank you to the AOL Scouts from Pack 403 who were our guests at the meeting last night. We hope that you all enjoyed your visit and will consider our Troop as you move into the Scouts BSA program.

Next, I want to give a hearty congratulations to our Scouts who were recognized for their accomplishments at last night’s meeting. Lucas received his Scout Rank Patch and Xander celebrated his first year with the Troop tonight and received his official Troop Neckerchief. Congratulations to you both!

Upcoming RSVP Deadlines

Let’s talk about our upcoming events and those crucial RSVP deadlines:

  • Please RSVP as soon as possible for the two Troop events happening this weekend:
    • The Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops happening this Saturday starting at 10AM, and
    • Orion’s Eagle Scout Project happening this Sunday at the American Legion. He needs help throughout the day, so feel free to drop in anytime between 9 AM and 5 PM depending on your availability.
  • Next Tuesday is the deadline for RSVPing to walk in the Miracle on Main Street Parade with our Cub Scouts.
  • Next Saturday is the deadline for RSVPing for the Troop Holiday Party. This is a normal Tuesday meeting, but we need you to RSVP so we can get a head count for pizza.
  • Finally, don’t forget to register or RSVP for the Zelienople Reindeer Race and Wreaths across America service projects.

More information about all of these events is available on TroopTrack.

Cell Phone Policy Reminder

I also wanted remind all our Scouts and families about the Troop Cell Phone Policy adopted at our last PLC meeting. Here are the highlights from the policy:

  • Troop 457 and its leadership are not responsible for cell phones if they’re lost, stolen, or damaged during Scout activities.
  • A cell phone is considered personal property and it’s the Scout’s responsibility to take care of it.
  • Cell phone usage is not permitted during Troop Meetings unless it’s specifically required for an activity.
  • Cell phones are not to be taken into restrooms or shower facilities, as this is a violation of Youth Protection.
  • When it comes to photos and videos, Scouts can’t post these on social media without the permission of everyone shown. The Troop, however, may post to our accounts and TroopTrack.
  • Always remember, cell phone usage should reflect the 12 points of the Scout Law, which means no inappropriate content.
  • Cyberbullying is strictly prohibited within our Troop and will not be tolerated.

This policy is in place to ensure that everyone has a positive and safe experience in our Troop. You can read the full policy on the Troop website and thank you in advance for understanding and adhering to these rules.

Upcoming Events

Looking ahead to the meetings and events in the next week. On Tuesday, we’ll be learning more about Sled Packing and how to prepare for our sled packing campout that will take place in early 2024. No special equipment is needed for the meeting, just bring your enthusiastic attitude!

And of course, don’t forget about the ILST training and Orion’s Eagle Project this weekend. Both are fantastic opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to our Troop and community.

That’s it for this week’s edition of ‘The Troop 457 Scoutmaster Minute.’ Remember, Scouting is not just about the badges we earn; it’s about the experiences we share and the lessons we learn along the way. Until next time, this is Mr. Maloney, signing off. Happy Scouting!
