Hello everyone, and welcome to another episode of the Troop 457 Scoutmaster Minute Podcast. I’m your host, Mr. Maloney, and it’s May 8th, 2024.
Let’s start with some recognition. Congratulations to Ben on his one-year scouting anniversary. We’re proud of your commitment and growth in the past year, Ben. And don’t forget, you’ll be receiving your new Troop Neckerchief at an upcoming Troop meeting.
Now onto some important deadlines. The RSVPs for our May Crossover campout are now closed. Look for an email from me later this weekend if you need to provide an updated Health Form. We’re also encouraging all our participants to bring their signed Permission Slips (and health forms if needed) to next Tuesday’s Troop meeting.
We’ve got a couple of service projects in the works. First up, we’ll be helping the Zelienople Historical Society with some landscaping around the Buhl House next Wednesday, May 15 starting at 6PM. Wear your Class B uniforms and work clothes and bring tools like rakes and shovels to help supplement what ZHS has available.
Our second event involves placing flags in the Zelienople Cemetery. Keep an eye on your TroopTrack invitations for finalized details.
One last final reminder. We have a few spots available in our crew for Sea Base this summer. Check your email for more information and be sure to respond by tomorrow (Thursday, May 9) if you would like to claim a spot.
Last weekend was May the Fourth, better known as Star Wars Day. Using that as inspiration, let’s reflect a bit on a quote from Yoda, the wise and ancient Jedi Master. Yoda once said, ‘Do or do not. There is no try.’ This quote resonates with the Scouting program because it emphasizes commitment, determination, and taking action—values that align with the Scout Oath and Law. As Scouts, we strive to do our best in every task we undertake, whether it’s learning a new skill, participating in a service project, or leading a team.
Looking ahead to next week, we have our First Aid and Safety Meeting on Tuesday, May 14. Scouts should bring their personal first aid kits to this meeting.
That’s all for today’s podcast episode. Remember, RSVP links and other information are available in the show notes. Thank you for tuning in, and we’ll see you next time on the Troop 457 Scoutmaster Minute Podcast.
