January 1, 2024 (Happy New Year!)

Podcast Transcript

Hello and welcome back to The Troop 457 Scoutmasters Minute, I’m Mr. Maloney.

REFLECTION

Today is January 1, 2024; the beginning of a new year. Many people look at New Years Day as a fresh start; an opportunity to fix mistakes you made in the past. I like that idea, but New Years isn’t a magic day when the slate is wiped clean.

Mary Pickford, a Canadian born actress and producer of silent movies, had some ideas about what it means to make a fresh start. She once said:

If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down.

We all make mistakes. We can either focus on what we have done in the past or start anew, trying even harder in the future. Just remember that the real failure in life is letting our past mistakes hold us back from doing the good things we are truly capable of.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Remember that we are returning to our normal Tuesday meeting schedule starting tomorrow with the first of two parts for the Chess Merit Badge. Please be sure to request your blue card on the Troop Website. Until next time, this is Mr. Maloney reminding you to do your best, be prepared, and learn from your mistakes. Happy Scouting everyone!
