Hello, everyone! Welcome to this week’s edition of the Troop 457 Scoutmaster Minute. First off, I want to extend a sincere apology for the delay in getting this episode out to you. It’s been a busy week, but we’re hoping to returning to our regular schedule this week. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Now, onto some important updates regarding RSVP deadlines. We’ve extended the deadlines for a couple of our upcoming events to ensure more Scouts have the opportunity to participate. The Moraine Trails Council First Aid Meet, scheduled for March 9, now has an RSVP deadline of this Tuesday, February 27. Additionally, the deadline for our Sled Packing event on March 16 has been extended to March 5. These are fantastic opportunities to engage with and learn from other Scouts, so please make sure to RSVP if you haven’t already.
I also want to extend a huge thank you to all our Scouts who volunteered at our Pack’s Pinewood Derby yesterday. Your commitment to service and your demonstration of sportsmanship were exemplary, providing a great model for our Cub Scouts to follow. Remember to get your service hours signed off in your books at this Tuesday’s meeting.
This week’s quote is from the Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, who said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle’s words resonate deeply with the values of Scouting. The process of rank advancement in Scouting—learning a new skill, demonstrating mastery of it, and then reviewing it repeatedly until it becomes a habit—is a testament to this philosophy. It ensures that when we face challenges, we can confidently act based on the habits of excellence we’ve developed through Scouting.
Looking ahead to next week’s activities, our meeting on Tuesday, February 27, will be an ‘Introduction to Sled Packing’ session. This is a perfect chance to get a jumpstart on preparing for our March campout, especially if we’re lucky enough to have some snow. Come ready to learn and get excited about what promises to be an adventurous outing.
That wraps up this week’s Scoutmaster Minute. Again, apologies for the delay, and thank you for sticking with us. Here’s to hoping we all continue to build habits of excellence, both in and out of Scouting. See you next week!
