Hello, Troop 457! Welcome back to another edition of β€˜The Scoutmaster Minute.’ Let’s dive into this week’s updates and insights.

First up, some important RSVP deadlines that need your attention:

  • The RSVP deadline for the Moraine Trails Council First Aid Meet, happening on March 9th, is February 24th.
  • Also, we have the Sled Packing adventure on March 15th, with a RSVP deadline of March 1st.

These dates are slightly later than previously communicated, so please make a note of these changes.

Also, don’t forget that our Zroni Roll Fundraiser will be ending soon. Paper orders must be turned in at next Tuesday’s meeting and online orders will remain open for one additional week; closing on Tuesday, February 27. This fundraiser is a great way to replenish your Scout account, so take advantage of the long weekend and get out selling!

Next I want to give a big thank you to all the Scouts who showed great flexibility with the last-minute change of plans at this week’s meeting. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to rescheduling Lashings 101 for a future date.

In exciting news, Seven Ranges Scout Reservation has announced this year’s summer camp theme: Lost in Space. We’re all looking forward to an out-of-this-world adventure at camp this summer. Stay tuned for more details in our Troop Newsletter, which is expected to be released next week.

Now, I’d like to reflect on a quote by American Author and activist Elizabeth Cady Stanton who said β€œTruth is the only safe ground to stand on.” In the context of Scouting, this quote reminds us of the importance of honesty and integrity. Truth is a foundation upon which we build our character and make decisions that align with the Scout Oath and Law. As Scouts, standing on the truth ensures we act fairly, make ethical choices, and live a life of honor. It’s about being trustworthy in all we do, a value that guides us not just in Scouting, but throughout our lives.

As we close, let’s look ahead our activities over the next week:

  • We’re excited for the Ski Trip to Holiday Valley this Friday, February 16th. Please arrive at ELC by 5:45 PM for a 6 PM departure. While we are cabin camping, remember to bring gear suitable for spending the day outside skiing.
  • For our Troop meeting next Tuesday, February 20th, we have our Patrol Leaders Council, Patrol, and Parents Meetings. The PLC will start at 6 PM, with the Parents/Patrol meetings beginning at 7 PM.

Remember to bring your completed Zroni Roll Fundraiser forms to Tuesday’s meeting and PLC members are reminded of Dimitri’s request to bring your Troop or Patrol visions to the meeting.

That’s it for this week’s update. Keep living the Scout Law every day, and let’s continue to support each other in our Scouting journey.
