December 25, 2023 (Merry Christmas from Troop 457)

Podcast Transcript

Hello everyone and welcome back to The Troop 457 Scoutmaster Minute, I’m your host Mr. Maloney. Today is December 25, 2023 so let me start by wishing a Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate. We just have a few quick reminders today and then I’d like to share with you some thoughts on the Holiday season.

REMINDERS

  • We do NOT have a meeting this week due to the Holidays. We will return to our normal Tuesday meeting schedule next Tuesday (January 2) when we’ll have the first of two meetings related to the Chess Merit Badge. Be sure to request your blue card on the Troop website before the meeting.
  • And second, remember to RSVP for the January “Do Nothing Campout”. The registration deadline for this event is January 8th.

REFLECTION

As we close out the year and celebrate the holidays, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how December, the season of lights, is a time when friends and family come together to share in the spirit and joy of the holiday season.

As we celebrate Christmas today, I want you to think about how everything in life is interconnected; just like the lights we see decorating our community. You see from a distance, it may look like each one of those lights is on its own. But when you get closer, you can see how the lights are connected by wire. And if you’ve ever helped your parents decorate for Christmas, you know that a changing just one bulb can impact the rest of the strand. Whether it’s a bulb burning out and the rest of the strand going dark, or even changing one single bulb with a blinker and suddenly the whole strand starts to blink. You know our lives are just like that.

When we do something to help others like giving our family gifts, helping others in our community, or even just offering a smile while we walk down a parade route. We’re impacting others throughout our community and making their lives brighter in ways that we cannot imagine.

The miracle of the Holidays comes with the spirit of giving of doing a good turn for others. Now, as we all share in the light of the season. Let our hearts be filled with the glow that comes from giving.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season spent with family and friends. Until next week, this is Mr. Maloney signing off. Happy Scouting everyone!
