Hello, Troop 457! This is Scoutmaster Maloney back from a short hiatus and welcome to the April 2nd, 2024 episode of the Scoutmaster Minute.
First off, let’s start with some celebration and recognition.
Happy belated birthday to Eliot! We hope you had a great day celebrating.
And speaking of celebrations, we have quite a few scouting anniversaries this month. Congratulations to Alex, Cam, Eddie, Matthew, Nathan, Eliot, Sean, Landen, Ian M., Jeffrey, and Solomon who are celebrating two years with our Troop. And a huge congratulations to Orion who marked 7 years last week! All of your commitment truly makes a difference in our troop.
I also wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who brought food to last week’s Court of Honor! You generous contributions helped celebrate our Scouts’ great accomplishments.
Now, onto some important RSVP deadlines. Remember, all the links you need to respond are available in the show notes. Up first, we hope to see as many of you as possible at the Pack 457 Arrow of Light Crossover Ceremony on April 21st. Please RSVP by April 14th so we know who to expect.
Also, RSVPs are open for our Fishing Derby Campout on April 26th. It’s shaping up to be a fun weekend with our first tent camping of 2024 and a friendly Troop fishing competition at Camp Mountain Run. Don’t forget to RSVP by April 15th.
Lastly, although it’s still a few months away, please RSVP for our July Washington D.C. Campout by April 13th. There is a lot of coordination to make this trip happen and we need a headcount to plan accommodations and our activities.
This week’s Troop quote comes from J.R.R. Tolkien who said, ‘The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.’ Tolkien was an English writer best known for his fantasy novels, including the popular Lord of the Rings series. As Scouts, we are always looking forward, preparing for the next adventure, whether it’s a camping trip, a service project, or a personal goal. We embrace the unknown, the challenges, and the joys that lie ahead, because we understand that it’s in these adventures where we grow the most.
As we close our this week’s episode, let’s look ahead to our activities coming up in the next week. We’re kicking off our annual Hanging Basket Fundraiser with the distribution of tickets at this week’s Troop meeting. Please only take tickets if you intend to sell them.
Also, our Troop meeting next Tuesday, April 9th, is our Mini Planning Conference. Come prepared with winter campout ideas for the first three months of 2025. We will also hold our Order of the Arrow Elections at this meeting. This means we need to have at least half of our active members present to vote, so please make every attempt to attend.
That’s all for this week’s podcast. Remember, every day is a new adventure, and as Tolkien said, ‘The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.’ Keep scouting, Troop 457!
