Hello, and welcome to the first episode of ‘The Troop 457 Scoutmaster Minute.’ I’m Mr. Maloney, your host, and today I’ll cover important announcements from our November 7th meeting and dive into the exciting upcoming events for our troop.

First up, our November campout is happening this weekend at Camp Buccoco. If you are planning on attending, please check TroopTrack to confirm your RSVP.

We’re cabin camping, so there is no need for tents or hammocks, unless you want to bring them for the experience. Remember, we’re sleeping indoors, but still, dress for the chilly weather.

We’ll meet in the ELC parking lot at 5:45 PM this Friday, November 10 in order to head out by 6. Expect to be back in the CVE parking lot on Sunday between 10 and 11 AM. We will text parents when we depart from Buccoco on Sunday morning. Also, we’re in need of additional drivers for Friday and Sunday, so please reach out if you can help.

We’ve got four service opportunities in the next month. Here they are:

  1. Setting up Santa’s House at Four Corners Park next weekend, November 18, starting at 8:30 AM. We’ll enjoy a pizza lunch at Goodfellos afterward.
  2. Bell ringing for The Salvation Army; a great service opportunity for patrols, with several dates and times available. Contact me if you’re interested.
  3. On December 16, there are two chances to serve. In the morning, we invite you to run or volunteer at the Zelienople Reindeer Race. This year’s race is especially bittersweet as it is in honor of Aiden Lutz, a 15 year old Scout from Butler who was tragically killed in a hit and run incident earlier this year. A portion of the funds raised will be donated to his Boy Scout Troop (Troop 6) in his memory. Register for the race using the link on TroopTrack or RSVP to volunteer.
  4. In the afternoon of December 16, w will be helping the American Legion with Wreaths Across America at Zelienople Cemetery. All our Scouts and Families are invited to participate.

Check TroopTrack for the latest information on these service opportunities and to RSVP.

Next, I’d like to congratulate Marcus, Lucas, and Jainil for completing their first year with the Troop and receiving their Troop Neckerchiefs!

And another congratulations goes out to the Scouts elected to leadership positions for the first half of 2024:

  • Senior Patrol Leader: Dimitri
  • Asst. Senior Patrol Leader: Ian
  • Patrol Leaders: Alex, Jack P., Emery, Brennan, Eddie
  • Asst. Patrol Leaders: Sean, Patrick D., Dylan, Eliot
  • Scribe: Matthew
  • Quartermaster of the Trailer: Eddie
  • Quartermaster of the Closet: Yorick
  • Troop Guide: Patrick H.
  • Chaplain Aide: Xander
  • Den Chief: Jack F.
  • Librarian: Jainil
  • Historian: Nathan
  • Outdoor Ethics Guide: Sean

You guys are going to do great!

Looking ahead, apart from our campout this weekend, next Tuesday’s meeting will focus on the Scout Uniform and How to Sew. The Cheesy Crusaders, who are planning this event, ask that everyone come in their full Class A uniform.

And don’t forget, the Santa’s House service project on Saturday, November 18, at Four Corners Park. It’s an early start at 8:30 AM, but it’s going to be a rewarding day.

That’s all for today’s episode. I hope you found this information helpful. Stay engaged, stay excited, and remember, scouting is about building character, leadership, and a sense of community. Until next time, this is Mr. Maloney signing off from The Troop 457 Scoutmaster Minute. Happy Scouting!
