Hello Den 1 Scouts and Families!

First of all, THANK YOU to all of you who made it out to this past weekend's REBEL Campout!  I know the weather was less than ideal, but hopefully you all had a good time regardless.  While the activities were unique to the REBEL campout, this weekend's campout was fairly typical of how campouts work.  Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions based on the weekend's event.

It's only been two weeks since I sent my last email, so there isn't much to update you on from a Troop perspective (especially since your Den was invited to participate in most of our activities!)  So today, let's focus on the different types of Troop meetings and which ones your Scout will likely participate in once they cross over to the Troop in the spring.

Yours in Scouting,

Mr. Maloney

Scoutmaster

TROOP MEETINGS

This month, I'd like to share more about our regular Troop meetings. The Troop meets weekly on Tuesdays at either the large pavillion in Zelie Park (June - August) or the basement of English Lutheran Church (rest of the year) unless otherwise communicated. Types of Troop Meetings include:

Regular Troop Meetings (7PM, except on nights with another meeting type): Our typical Troop meetings start with a flag ceremony and announcement from our Scouts and Adults. Then the Scouts move into an activity. This may be learning Scout Skills, finishing plans for an upcoming outdoor activity, working on merit badges (together or separately), or playing games. We always close our meetings with a prayer by our Chaplain's Aide.
Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) Meetings (6PM on the third Tuesday of the month): During this meeting, Scouts in Leadership positions provide a report on the last month's activities and plan for events in the upcoming month.
Patrol Meetings (7PM on the third Tuesday of the month): Immediately following the PLC meeting, all of our Scouts meet as patrols to hear the results of the PLC meeting, work on event planning, and work together on learning skills.
Parent Meetings (7PM on the third Tuesday of the Month): During the monthly Patrol Meetings, our Parents meet to discuss what adult assistance the Scouts may need for the upcoming month's activities. All parents are encouraged to attend even if you are not in a leadership position.
Courts of Honor (dates and times vary, typically quarterly on a month with a fifth Tuesday): Courts of Honor are where we recognize Scouts have have recently completed Rank advancement, merit badges, or other awards. All Scouts and their families are invited to join us for this celebration.

Scouts are encouraged, but not required, to attend every meeting. Scouts who are not at a meeting may miss a fun activity or an opportunity to learn a Scout skill needed for advancement, but they can catchup in future meetings.

It's also important to emphasize that the majority of our Troop Meetings are run and planned by our Scouts. This is an important part of the Scouting program as it teaches leadership skills and the importance of the patrol method. Your Scouts will get to experience a Troop meeting themselves while completing the Scouting Adventure required for their Arrow of Light rank.
