Learn more about Crossover Campout, Summer Camp, Courts of Honor and more!

Hello Troop 457!

Thank you to all the Scouts, Leaders, and Parents who joined the Troop for our trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force earlier this month. We had a great trip and learned a lot about the history of aviation. Be sure to check out more photos (and share your own) in the TroopTrack photo library.

As always, this month's newsletter highlights our upcoming events and some other important news for our members and their families to be aware of. A few items I would like everyone to pay attention to:

Courts of Honor
The Troop is hosting two Courts of Honor this month. The first is on May 6 when we'll be honoring Aydan Clark with the Troop's 101st Eagle Scout rank. The second will be on May 30, when we will be presenting our members with ranks, merit badges, and other awards earned since our January Court of Honor. The deadline for completing ranks, merit badges, and other awards is Tuesday, May 23.

Crossover Campout
Our next campout is May 19 - 21 at Muskrat Cove in Moraine State Park and will be a great opportunity for our Scouts to finish rank advancement requirements in advance of the May Court of Honor. Join us for the whole weekend or just for the part that fits into your family's schedule. RSVP in TroopTrack (and include a comment if you're only attending for part of the weekend).

Summer Camp

  • We have reached capacity in the Troop Cabin at Beaumont but can accommodate more Scouts if some attendees are willing to camp outside. Check your RSVP today to make sure you've held a spot.
  • The Merit Badge schedule is now available for our week. Scouts should start developing their planned schedule with -5 merit badges. Merit Badge Registration opens at noon on May 16 and we're working on a plan to register Scouts at that time.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or any other leader with any questions, comments or concerns.

Yours in Scouting,

Mr. Maloney
Scoutmaster

UPCOMING EVENTS

Here is a quick look at all the Troop events coming up in the next month.  (Click on the image to view the invitation in TroopTrack.)

MAY 19 - 21
Crossover Campout
---

Car Camp at the beautiful Muskrat Cove campsite in Moraine State Park! During the weekend, our new Crossovers will work to earn their Totin' Chip and Firm'n Chit awards which allows them to use wood tools and tend fires while on campouts. This campout is also an excellent opportunity for Scouts to complete rank requirements in advance of this month's Court of Honor.

Attend for the whole weekend or as much as your family's schedule permits.

The Troop will also be placing flags at Veterans Graves in Zelienople Cemetery in May. Look for an invitation from TroopTrack with additional information once the date is confirmed.

In addition to these upcoming events, Scouts should be prepared for the following activities during our regular Troop Meetings:

OTHER NEWS

SEA BASE ATTENDEES

We're just 15 months away from setting sail from Sea Base.  If you indicated that you plan on attending our expedition, please let us know ASAP if you plans have changed.

We have 20 spots available on our crew and 16 Scouts who have expressed interest and only 4 remaining slots for adults.  Once we confirm the Scouts who  plan on attending:

  • We will determine which adults will fill the remaining spots. Priority will be given based on the adult's tenure as a Troop Leader. Consistent with the new BSA camping rules, all adults attending the trip must be registered leaders.
  • The Troop will charge Scout accounts for the cost of the individual(s) Sea Base registration (not including additional transportation costs).  The Troop must pay half of our registration cost (~$11,000) on November 1 and we need participants to begin contributing to these payments so we can cover this cost.

Additional information will be shared in an upcoming email to Sea Base attendees.
