Troop 457 has a lot of great events coming up in the next few months. Learn more about them in this month's newsletter.

Hello Troop 457!  We have a TON of exciting events coming up over the next few months including our ski trip, Scout Sunday, family bowling night, and welcoming our newest members at the Pack 457 crossover.  But I want to focus on our event for next week: our Court of Honor.  This is an event where we celebrate all our Scouts' accomplishments since our last Court of Honor and award ranks and merit badges to all those who have earned them.

If you have not yet RSVPed for the Court of Honor, you can do that by clicking the button below

RSVP for the Court of Honor

As we prepare for the Court of Honor, I'm reminded of a quote from Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu:

“The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.”

There’s a lesson for us in that.  The rewards we seek in life and in Scouting don’t come to those who sit back and wait for something to be handed to them on a silver platter.

If you come to troop meetings without looking in your Scout Handbook all week long and if you never ask how to pass a test or who to see about a merit badge, you’ll never advance very far in Scouting.

I encourage all our Scouts to set a goal for their time in Scouting.  I hope it is becoming an Eagle Scout but it may be visiting a High Adventure Base or representing our Troop at a Nation Jamboree.  As a step toward reaching these goals, I want you to pick out some award you can earn for our next court of honor.

Whatever the goal you set for yourself, remember that only you can take that first step toward it.  No one can do it for you.  Once you’ve taken that first step the next step becomes easier.  And the ones after that will be easier still because you’re on the way along the Scouting trail.

Yours in Scouting,

Mr. Maloney

Scoutmaster

Merit Badge Counselors Needed
Merit Badge Counselors Needed

The BSA has almost 140 merit badges (see Scouting.org for a full list with the latest requirements) and we're always looking for adults to be Merit Badge Counselors. Below are links to reports in TroopTrack that list the individuals in the Troop who are currently listed as counselors as well as merit badges where there are no counselors in the Troop.

Scouts who want to work on merit badges that don't have a Troop counselor have to work with a counselor from another troop within our Council. If you would like to be a counselor, click the button below to learn more about how to apply.
